Sunday the 14th of September, we travelled the short journey to Bracknell to face the Bracknell Cavaliers Vixens. Following our win from the week before, we were excited to continue the streak and make our mark on the league.

A complete contrast to the week before, the rain hammered down, and the pitch had been reduced to a battlefield of mud. Both teams fought hard despite the difficult conditions, remaining evenly matched to the end.

Bracknell Cavaliers struck twice early in the first half sending the ball into the back of the net making it 2-0, however, we didn’t let this rattle us. A clever ball from Viv sent Hannah through on goal to pull one back before half time.

At the break, our manager’s words reminded us that there was still plenty of time to turn things around. We have proven countless times in the past that we don’t give in easily and we used that momentum to drive us forward. Although wet through and caked in mud, we remained strong in the second half ignoring our tired legs.

Viv got herself in the perfect position to capitalise on a short pass from their keeper, scraping the post with a first touch shot back at goal which levelled the score. Moments later she threaded another perfect ball through to Hannah, the move a testament to the chemistry between a playmaker and striker. One-on-one with the keeper, Hannah calmly slotted it home to put us ahead 3-2.

Bracknell never stopped pushing, sending multiple shots towards the goal but nothing could find the back of the net. With the rain still hammering down and the pitch as slippery as an ice rink, neither team was willing to give up.

Hannah completed her hat-trick with another composed finish, this time after an excellent through ball from Dawn who was working solidly in midfield, giving us a 4-2 lead.

With the game seemingly in our hands, Bracknell showed great resilience and pulled one back late on, keeping the pressure on until the final whistle. In the end, we held firm for a hard-fought victory in a game that truly could have gone either way.

Sam’s outstanding performance in goal, which kept the scoreline down, despite multiple shots being fired her way, earned her the Players Player of the Match.

Manager’s Player of the Match was awarded to Hannah, for a stunning display up front capped off with a superb hat-trick.

A massive shout out to Bracknell Cavaliers Vixens for pushing until the very end and giving us a good battle. We wish them the best of luck for the rest of the season and we look forward to our next meeting in November.
