This Sunday we hosted Longford Park FC Vixens for the first game of the 25/26 season. A mixture of nerves and excitement buzzed throughout our squad, and we knew this would be an important game. The way we opened the season would send a clear message to the rest of the league – we will not be an easy opponent, and this year we are determined to win.

Despite the weather being muggy and humid, both teams came out strong from the first whistle. We looked the stronger side early on, creating numerous chances, but just couldn’t find the back of the net. Longford were quick to react when we did loose possession, driving towards our back line. However, once again, our defence was strong and resilient and would not let them pass.

With the game still goalless at the break, we knew we needed to step things up in the second half – and that’s exactly what we did.

The breakthrough came from a corner, delivered perfectly by one of our new signings. Viv met it with precision and slotted it home to open the scoring. From there, the goals began to flow.

A superb through ball from Lisa, another new addition to the squad, released Ash, who charged past the defenders and coolly fired it home to make it 2-0.

Moments later, Jade saw her effort saved by the keeper, but Jess showed great anticipation with a surging run from defence to ensure the rebound found the net.

Jade then turned provider again, sending Lucy through to a one-on-one with the keeper. Lucy kept her composure, picked her spot and calmly guided the ball into the goal for our fourth.

Jade wasn’t finished there though, as she bagged her third assist with a clever ball to Viv on the edge of the box. Viv took control, and fired the ball home, through a sea of defenders, to bag her second of the game, sealing a commanding 5-0 win.

At the other end, Sam didn’t have much to do, but when called upon she was outstanding – ensuring that every chance the opposition created was dealt with, securing a clean sheet to start the season.

Credit to Longford Vixens for their relentless spirit. In their very first game – not just of the season, but as a newly formed team – they showed real class and a never give up attitude. Despite the scoreline, this was far from an easy win for us, as they pushed us hard right until the final whistle. They were unlucky not to score, creating several good chances. We wish them the best for the rest of the season and are confident they’ll only grow stronger as they continue to develop as a team.

Louise was deservedly named Player’s Player of the Match after a rock-solid defensive display, always covering her teammates and winning every challenge to deny the opposition.

Viv picked up Manager’s Player of the Match, showcasing her grit and determination in midfield and capping off her performance with two goals, proving a constant threat and a nightmare for the other team.

A brilliant performance all round, and the perfect start to the season with a 5-0 victory.
